Wishlist: Winter 2015!

Monday 28 September 2015

Hello everybody!
So, as winter is on the horizon, I decided I needed a new wardrobe... obviously. So what better way to start than to make a wish list?! I have created three outfits which I LOVE, so fingers crossed I get to wear them!

Outfit one
This outfit was based all around the coat, because I instantly fell in love with it! (I have even brought this coat since writing this post!) I think this coat is gorgeous. I needed a casual winter coat, so I wanted a belted coat style, but then I found the faux fur around this instantly made this coat look more formal and sophisticated. The fur can also be taken off if you wanted a more casual look. So next thing I teamed it up with was some over the knee heeled boots to make the look classier. Now as the coat added enough detail to the outfit, I wanted everything else to be quite simple and not too over the top, so this pair of classic jeans for Topshop were perfect, as well as the crop top which looks so cute with a little bit of scallop detail.

Coat - Newlook
Jumper - Topshop
Jeans - Topshop
Boots - Newlook

Outfit two
Next up, I wanted to create a more casual outfit, and found these cute trainers, which are so easy to pair with anything from dresses to jeans. I chose to pair it with jodphur trousers to make the outfit even more comfortable.

Jumper - Newlook
Trousers- Topshop
Trainers - Topshop

Outfit three
Just because it’s cold, who says you can't wear a skirt?! Especially this leather look a line skirt! I love the shape of this skirt and the colour makes it feel so warm and comfortable. This teamed with cute roll neck jumper and thermal tights from Primark; you would not only be warm, but so stylish!

Boots - Riverisland

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I didn’t tempt you to go shopping too much! ;)

Great British Bake Off; Tennis Cake

Wednesday 23 September 2015

Hey guys!

So, for the past few weeks I haven’t been able to bake the technical bakes from The Great British Bake Off for various reasons, but when I heard last week’s technical bake I was excited to be able to find all to the ingredients on the supermarket shelves!

The bake was a Tennis Cake from BBC

So, where do I start? As you can see from the pictures, this did not go well. The cake itself was lovely... the mixture was so smooth and such an easy bake, so go Mary Berry! The only thing is I forgot to add the sultanas... in a fruit cake! Who does that?!

Then it went onto the decoration. The marzipan and icing were great, rolled out smoothly, but the piping work was awful! I tried my hardest to get those straight lines of the tennis court but it was impossible. I don’t know how the bakers did it so well! So we have a wobbly tennis court! Haha! Then I piped the net and rackets and they piped perfectly. No problem there.

Next up came the icing to pipe around the outside, which I ran out of icing sugar for. Amateur mistake! So instead I made cute little roses instead.

So... then it came to assembling the cake, and everything just fell apart! L Boo!

Never mind hey! I can laugh about it and that’s what all this is about!

Did you try this recipe? I would love to hear what you think about it

Maze; Park; Farm...

Friday 18 September 2015

So, where I’m from there aren’t many great days out. Its small town with not much around, so when we stumbled upon this cute park in Sandwell I was amazed.

At first sight it looked like just the usually park, so I decided to have a stroll around and found the cutest little farm.

Quack Quack!

The farm was so cheap and such good value for money.

There were all sorts of animals from chickens to pigs, and each one was named which made the farm feel so much more homely.
As an extension to the farm there was a cute little maze for the children, but I could not resist running around. I am a child at heart.

And finally, the scenery was gorgeous. The flowers were in full bloom and ad started to make me miss summer a little bit, until I stumbled across pumpkins, which got me very excited for autumn and everything that comes along with it!

So, if you’re ever in West Bromwich, for whatever reason...? I highly suggest Sandwell Park Valley.

See you soon,

Love, Ky.

'Bloopers'

Tuesday 15 September 2015

Hey guys!

I have a little cheeky extra post for you today. As I was going through the photos for my curly hair post, I saw so many photos of me pulling funny faces. I did not know how many face I pull just getting ready in the morning, and I had a little laugh to myself flicking through these photos so I thought I would share them with you so that you can have a little giggle to yourself too.

Do you pull funny faces whilst you’re getting ready or is it just me?! I hope not!

Hope you enjoyed this, and I will see you in a couple of days for another post!
See you soon,

Curley hair for thin hair!

Tuesday 8 September 2015

Hey guys!

I have been curing my hair a lot recently, and I have loved it. I feel like it makes a look go from casual to dressed up so easily. I’ve always looked around for hair tutorials for curly hair, but they have never worked for me. I would love big bouncy Victoria secret waves, but my hair sis so thin it just doesn’t work! (Insert grumpy emoji here). They always worked when I wore my extensions, because although they don’t add any length now, they add a lot of volume, but I always find extensions annoying for various reasons,
1. Sooo annoying to put it
2. Really uncomfortable to wear
3. You’re very on edge that they’re showing all day
Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?

So anyway, rant over... I wanted to have curly hair without the extensions, so then I have been trying out this hairstyle for a while now and I love it. It’s just general curls, but instead of doing very thick layers and sections, I find doing very small sections works so well. It gives your hair SO much volume and the curls stay in all day!

So let’s get started.

Firstly I like to start with second day hair because I feel like it’s so much easier to work with. When you’ve just washed your hair is so soft that none of the curls really stay in. I use a bit of dry shampoo so that it doesn’t get greasy throughout the day.

So start off with sectioning your hair. I do mine in three sections, which really isn’t much for my hair. Each section is tiny. Once I’ve put the sections into place I spray my hair all over with heat protector. Each section I curl is roughly 1cm thick. I then grab my trusty straighteners and starting from the top of my hair I grab my hair in-between the two irons then twist my hair around it as I’m dragging the straighteners down.

I do exactly the same with the rest of my hair, but I alternate the direction of the curls so that it looks more natural.

After this I spray a LOT of hair spray to hold it all in place.

After this, I like to brush my hair to loosen the curls a bit because they’re a little bit crazy at this point. And then spray yet more hair spray.

And that’s the completed look!

I love doing this look and it takes no time at all! I hope you like it just as much as me and definitely show me if you recreate it!

Do you like posts like these or do you like more foodie posts? Or do you like a bit of everything?

Get To Know Me Tag!

Wednesday 2 September 2015

I was reading this post from Leah over on Beauty Type, and then I realised that I have never done anything like this on my blog, so how much do you really know about me?! So I figured it would be a good idea to do it so you can get to know me and hopefully I can learn something about you too! It’s also my first tag so I’m very excited.

1. What is your middle name?
Alicia. I actually like my middle name. I never liked my first name when I was younger because no one could ever pronounce it right or spell it right, but I’ve learned to like my first name because it’s unique.

2. What was favourite subject at school?
I love food technology, as you've probably guessed. I was always really creative, but not in the typical arty way. I couldn’t draw anything (I still can’t!) so my creativity went into food, which I loved!

3. What is your favourite drink?
This might sound strange but I don’t really have a favourite drink, it all depends on how I feel during that day. I like to drink tea, but I get carried away with what I’m doing at the time it always goes cold! L and I try and drink water because it’s best for you, but sometimes I crave sugar and have to have a coke. Then I pop next door to Greggs when I’m at work and get a coke and cake, it’s so tempting having Greggs next door!

4. What’s your favourite song at the moment?

Oh I don’t know this one is so hard! I seem to just love the catchy pop tunes and blast them in my car on the way to work

5. What would you name your children?
I don’t know, I think when it comes to children I will be scrolling through one of those boos to try and find a unique name that I love.

6. Do you participate in any sports?

Not really, I do go to the gym every other day but apart from that no. I do really want to start tennis with the other half but it’s just a matter trying to get him there!

7. What’s your favourite book?
I recently read Close My Eyes by Sophie McKenzie and I was addicted so I brought two more of her books and love them just as much!

8. What’s your favourite colour?

I love blue. But an in-between blue. It’s hard to explain like in between sky blue and deep blue, I don’t know what that’s called?

9. What’s your favourite animal?

Dolphin. I don’t know why, but I love them! I would LOVE to swim with the one day!

10. What’s your favourite perfume?

I tend to keep Shakira in my bag at all times because I get so many compliments on it everytime I wear it and it’s so affordable!

11. What’s your favourite holiday?
Christmas difinatley! I love the festive season, it feels so cosy when you’re snuggled up in a blanket and hot chocolate watching films. The only thing I don’t like is being outside in the cold.

12. Have you graduated from High School?
Yes, I am now finishing my University degree

13. Have you been out of the country?
Yes I used to go on holiday a lot when I was younger, to places like Spain and France but I would love to travel more.

14. Do you speak any other languages?
I did a Spanish GCSE, but I can’t remember a whole lot of it! Oops. I’m also trying to learn french at the minute

15. Do you have any siblings?

Yes, three old sisters

16. What’s your favourite store?
I love to shop on BooHoo online because I feel like you can get some really good stuff at a reasonable price.

17. What’s your favourite restaurant?
It’s whatever I am in the mood for really.

18. Do you like school?
Yeah I did, which is why I decided to go to university.

19. Who are some of your favourite You Tubers?
I love Zoella, VelvetGh0st and FreddieMyLove to name a few.

20. What’s your favourite movie?
I don’t have a favourite, but I love RomCom’s

21. What are some of your favourite TV shows?

I love Pretty Little Liars; I’m so upset that it is ending some. I also watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians a lot...

22. PC or Mac?
I’ve always had a PC and never had a Mac

23. What phone do you have?

iPhone 5c in blue

24. How tall are you?
I’m 5’5″ I think?

25. Any pets?
Yes, I have two dogs. One is a shih tzu and the other is a cross between a Labrador and Border collie, so they are complete opposites! Walking them is so difficult because one is zooming in front and the other is having a slow stroll!

There we go. My first tag! I hope you enjoyed reading a bit more about me and I would love it if you did this tag too so that I can know more about you! If you do answer the questions on this tag be sure to let me know in the comments as I would love to read them.

My in flight travel essentials

Thursday 13 August 2015

Hi guys. So I have a cheeky mid week post for you today. As you know I am going to Rome next week, so it means that I will miss out on a couple of posts so I thought I would post a couple before so you don’t miss out.

Keeping with the holiday theme, I have recently been packing my hand luggage, which inspired me with the idea of doing a blog post about what I am taking, because I have been reading any many blogs and watching videos for ideas to take. Instead of just writing what I am taking, I thought I would do a fun little video for you guys as it’s a little more interesting, plus its the first video I will have every done on my blog! So watch below to find out what I am taking!

Sorry it’s not the best quality, it’s my first video so I’m still getting to grips with editing but I tried my best! I also haven’t got much money to buy special equipment but I hope you enjoy it!

Glasses and Sunglasses
These are a must have for the plane. The sunglasses I will most likely only need on the other side of the plane, but my glasses are essential. Although I don’t need to wear glasses full time, I feel like the air conditioning on the plane will really dry my eyes out, and I suffer from that really bad. Pus I will do a LOT of reading to pass the time. My sunglasses are from Primark and were just £2! I don’t think you can go wrong with Primark sunnies, I’m a sucking for breaking them all the time, so cheap and cheerful does me well!

Sweets
I brought some boiled sweets because they’re supposed to be really good to suck when taking off to stop your ears from popping. I say supposed because haven’t been on a plane for years so I don’t know how true this is, I will be sure to let you know!

Comfys
This for me includes socks and a jumper. Again you don’t know how strong that air conditioning is so I am being prepared and taking something warm wt me for on the plane as I ate to be cold. Even if I don’t use them they’re light and is better to be safe than sorry right?!

Passport
Obviously.

Electronics
Kindle, charger for the kindle and headphone. Planes for me are really boring so a kindle is  a must have, I have just started to read Girl, Missing by Sophie McKenzie. I have only just started but I am really enjoying it! I would hate for my kindle to go dead and have nothing to occupy me, so my travel charger is defiantly coming along with me. I also packed some earphones, just in case I wanted to steal the other half’s phone and listen to music!

Toiletries
I picked up a Nivea travel kit from Primark for just £5. It included wipes, lip balm shower cram and moisturiser and also a deodorant which I have used so need to get some more! This is great because the pressure on the plane can really dry out your skin so staying moisturised is a must!

That is it! Is there anything you think I am forgetting? Or anything you feel is a must too? Be sure to let me know in the comments

Great British Bake Off: Week 1

Monday 10 August 2015

Hey guys,

Hope you’re all well?! So living up to my blog post about The Great British Bake Off last week of attempting the technical bakes on my blog, and showing the results good or bad, here we are with week one, and this is definitely bad... great start hey!

So as you may know, the technical bake this week was a walnut cake from Mary Berry. Now the cake itself turned out great! It had a lovely colour, a lovely bounce to it when it came out of the oven and tasted great. (I had a cheeky taste from the bits that came off in the mould!) the walnuts we evenly distributed and didn’t sink too! YAY!

Next I attempted the caramelised walnuts. This is where it all started to go wrong. I had three attempts at the caramel and all three attempts went to pot... each and every time I always crystallised the sugar and there was no sign of it turning to caramel any time soon. But like a trooper, if you don’t succeed try and try again. I did try... and try again, and then I decided to stop because I was close to running out of sugar. Oops.

The butter cream came next, just a plain and simple butter cream, where can you go wrong. It’s a favourite for everyone and makes a great filling which it did!

Then the boiled icing came. Oh dear. It was like de ja vu. It just would not go right. I was standing there whisking this for a good twenty minutes and it was so grainy! It tasted lovely, but you could feel the granules of sugar and it was not enjoyable. So in the end I accepted defeat...

Although the icing tasted great, I feel like it was a lot of effort that wasn’t needed. The cake tastes lovely without it and I feel like it would be overwhelmingly sweet with the icing on too, plus very bad for your teeth! Not only that I feel like this recipe is a lot of trouble for an icing, and an Italian meringue would give the same effect and would be much easier to create. Sorry Mary!

Overall, this week did not go very well. I would defiantly be 12th place! Oops... better luck next time hey?!

Did you try this recipe out? If you did let me know in the comments, I would love to see anyone else’s opinion of it too!

Unfortunately, as you may know I am going away to Rome next week, and so I am going to miss the Great British Bake Off, which I am quite upset about. This means I would be able to do the next couple of technical bakes for obvious reasons. Sorry! I will make sure I do it one I’m back though I promise!

Anyway until next time!

Great British Bake Off

Monday 3 August 2015

Hello everybody,

Photo take from The Great British Bake Off website

So The Great British Bake Off starts this week and my excitement is at an all time high! As this is my first year doing a blog, I thought I would incorporate GBBO into my blog post somehow which gave me the idea to test myself with each technical bake they create, if I have the equipment to do so, with the results being published on my blog... good or bad. I think this will be a good little challenge for me and I would love it if you could join me!

Before I go can we just talk about the advert for a second! I don’t know about you but I love it... it’s so funny and I’m pretty sure I know all the words to it as well now! If you haven’t seen it yet I will leave the video below and you can let me know your thoughts.

See you next time for a technical bake!
Happy baking!

Triple braid

Monday 27 July 2015

Hi there!
I have a little beauty post for you today, the triple braid. I love this hairstyle because it is so quick and simple yet looks like you have sent ages on your hair. So let’s get started!

First off, I tend to use second day hair for this as I fell like it has more grip and holds the braid better.
When I washed my hair I used the L’Oreal elvive fiberology shampoo and conditioner. These are my new favourite! I have noticed my hair is slightly thicker, but not a lot, but it makes my hair super soft! I then used the herbal essence conditioning hair treatment as I haven’t used one in a while and felt like my hair needed it! I then finished this off with the L’Oreal mythic oil in the ends of my hair to give it a nice shine.

I didn’t apply any heat to my hair, I left it to dry naturally so that it has a natural wave and styles better.

Bring all you hair to one side of your head; I leave my fringe out to style later on.

Just like a normal braid, spilt your hair into three and secure each one with an elastic band. With one of the three start a normal braid then secure the end.

With another section, create a fishtail plait. This is exactly the same as a normal braid but with four sections instead of three, bringing each end into the middle until you have reached the end. Then secure with an elastic.

Now this is optional, pull each braid out a little so it looks a little messy. I love to do this because it gives more texture to the braid.

Then, make a normal braid using the remainder of the sections and secure and that’s the braid done!

I like to pull small sections of my hair from around my face and curl them as I fell like it look flattering.

And that’s the completed look!

This look is so versatile. You can pop it into a bun to create more of a textured bun, make the braids into piggy tails, or recreate them into milkmaid braids.I love this look and it is my go to hairstyle! I would love to see if you recreate this hairstyle so leave my links in the comments if you do!

My 5 Favourites... TV Programmes

Monday 20 July 2015

Hey guys,

Now I feel like I saw the a lot, but sorry for the recent absence. Truth is, when I started blogging I never imagined how hard it would be to get into the routine of blogging. I didn’t think it would be so difficult to balance work and blogging but it really is, so sorry about that and I’m promise I’m going to try a lot hard to keep blogging on a regular basis.

So anyway, one of my favourite things to watch and read is monthly favourites. I like being nosey and seeing what everyone else is loving so I can have a try at the products too. I would love to write them, however I always tend to stick to the products that I know work best for me, so each month would literally be the same and there would be no point is writing one. Instead of doing monthly favourite I thought I would do a little ‘My 5 Favourites’ series, where each month I will talk about my five favourites of a particular thing, whether that’s beauty products or blogs, I thought it would be a different take on a monthly favourites.

My first 5 favourites are going to be TV shows. I decided to do TV shows over anything else, because recently I have been watching a LOT, and they have been taking over my life, so I thought it would be a good place to start.

1. Game of Thrones
My number one favourite at the moment is Game of Thrones. Now I was really late on this one. I’ve only started watching it just over a month ago, and I’m on season 4 already. Now I think that says something! I found it a little confusing to start with, (and annoyed the other half with a lot of questions!), but when you do understand it, it really keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting to watch another episode! I would really recommend this one, and as you can probably tell from my other favourites, it’s not like my usually favourites but there something about Game of Thrones that I just love!

2. Pretty Little Liars
Now this is more like my kind of programme. Although it’s girly and got your typical romance in it, it has twists and turns in it that you just have to know the answer! It has you guessing what’s going to happen before it’s happened and then changes what you thought completely so you are second guessing yourself! I love the characters in it too; I think each one of them is really relatable which is why I think it is so popular.

3. Don’t Tell The Bride
Don’t tell the bride is a reality show here in the UK, where a couple is given £15,000 to plan their wedding, but there is a twist, the groom plans it all, with no say from the bride, and in just three weeks. I have been addicted to this show as the groom usually does something complete opposite to what the bride wants, and it make you really feel sorry for the bride. I always question what I would do in their shoes and I wouldn’t handle it half as well as they are!  Feel like I might be a bit of a bridezilla, which is a bit worrying.

4. Orange Is The New Black
This is probably in everyone’s favourites, I think one of the reasons that is due to the fact that although it’s funny, and the characters are hilarious, it also has some really hard hitting stories in it which makes you feel for the characters as well. It has a great balance though, s it’s not like you’re sitting watching the TV in tears all episode!

5. Keeping Up With The Kardashians
This is one of my guilty pleasures. I feel like I know more about their lives that I do about my own sometimes! It really makes me laugh sometimes and it’s just one of those programmes where you haven’t got to sit there staring at the TV, I can usually have it on the TV whilst doing some housework. It just makes those household chores that little bit more enjoyable!

There you go! That’s it a few of my favourite TV programmes that I have been enjoying recently, let me know in the comments what yours are, although I don’t really need any more programmes to watch I will still love to see what else there is to watch.

What's in my bag?

Monday 6 July 2015

Hello everybody!

It feels like so long since I last did a blog post and I don’t know why, so I was excited to be writing again. I have recently been addicted to reading and watching ‘What’s in my bag’ posts and videos, so it made me want to do one too... that and the fact that my bag weighs a tonne so I wanted to find out what I carry on my arm everyday! So let’s get started.

First things first, my current bag of use is this on from River Island. I LOVE it! It was a Christmas present from the mother-in-law, but I chose it! As soon as I saw this bag online I fell in love, I love the coral colour on the sides which adds a pop of colour, mixed with the lovely black and white detail on the front which makes it look sophisticated... well I can try!

The only problem with this bag is that although it looks big, it’s really not. The inside has on large compartment which is split by one piece of fabric, but I feel like this is more of a hindrance than a help as it doesn’t fit many things in such as my lunchbox, so I have to try and squeeze everything in.

Again, although the bag looks big, it does not fit most of my university things in; it doesn’t fit an A4 piece of paper in without folding it. Obviously most of my uni work is done on a4, which means that I have to bend or fold it to manage to fit it in.
Other than that I love it! Onto what I have in my bag which is making it weigh so much!

1. Purse
Probably the most important thin which is carried in my bag is my purse. I have had this one for years from Topshop which the other half brought for me. I feel all I’m typing is that everything is brought for me! Oops! It isn’t honest! This obviously carried everything from change, to my bank card and ID. Plus one, two (or maybe more) old receipts. Come to think of it my purse could probably do with a clear out too!

2. Glasses
Next thing is my glasses case. Now I don’t really need glasses, they're more for reading, but I like to carry them on me just in case. I usually tend to get headaches towards the end of the day from straining my eyes at work, so I like to put them in my bag in case I need to put them on. I recently brought some new glasses from Specsavers and I love them!

3. Kindle
As I travel a lot on the train to and from uni so a kindle is an essential to make the time go faster. The book I am currently reading is Girl, Missing written by Sophie McKenzie. I haven’t got very far at the minute but from the first couple of chapters I am hooked. I recently read another book of hers called Close My Eyes which was amazing. It was such an easy read and had me not wanting to put it down... I would recommend this book to anyone!

4. Perfume
I found two perfumes in my bag, which sadly are pretty much empty. The first is Beyoncé Heat, which I get so many compliments with whenever I wear it. The second is Britney Spears Island Fantasy which is my favourite because it a lovely sweet smelling scent. Definitely need to purchase some more!

According to The Perfume Shop, BeyoncĂ© Heat has heart tones of Almond Macaroon and Honeysuckle Nectar and has base notes of Tonka Bean. No wonder I love it so much, it’s mostly food related!

The Fragrance Shop says Britney Spears Island Fantasy is a mix of watermelon, red berries and citrus fruits, giving a lovely fresh scent.

5. Makeup bag
I think this may be what is weighing the bag down so much! There is quite a lot in here

- Nail glue. At the time of sorting out my bag I was wearing false nails so I carried nail glue just in case one unexpectedly popped off.

- Mirror

- Bronzer and powder with brushes. Just in case I need a touch up during the day.

- Nail file – for any broken nails

- Small perfume – I feel like I have way to much perfume in this bag, maybe I could do with a little less. This is the Beyonce and Britney spears ones in little travel bottles.

- 7 lip products! Okay I admit it, 7 is a bit too many. I have cut this down since clearing my bag so it’s not too bad now. I have kept 4 of my favourites. As you can tell all four of these are very well worn and loved.

Top left: Maybelline Colour Drama
Top Right: Natural Collection Raspberry
Bottom left: Rimmel Kate Moss 110
Bottom Right: Rimmel Apocolips

The first is the Maybelline Colour Drama Lipstick in Red Essential, which as you’ve probably guessed is a lovely bright red. Being a lip crayon I find it very easy to apply and its super pigmented, which is why it is one of my favourites.

I have a natural collection lipstick in the colour Raspberry. I love this lipstick because it’s so easy to apply and even easier to wear. It one of those where you can quickly pop t onto your lips and you’re good to go! It was so cheap as well and well worth the money. The staying power isn’t the best, but it was only a couple of pound so you can’t complain for that price.

Next is a Rimmel Kate Moss is the colour 110, which is a lovely red/orange. I love this colour as it is perfect for summer. I have a few on the Rimmel Kate Moss collection because I feel as though they are such lovely colours.

On top of the Rimmel lipstick I like to apply the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer. I have the colour Luna. Now I’m not overly keen on the colour of this as I think it doesn’t suit my skin tone with me being pale. However I recently tried it over the tip of the Rimmel Kate Moss 110, and together they look beautiful. I give a lovely shine to the lipstick and tones down the colour if you don’t want something too bright.

Top to bottom
Rimmel Apocolips

Rimmel Kate Moss
6. Bits and bobs.
Vaseline – You will soon learn that I am a Vaseline addict. Like seriously addict. I think for Christmas I was given about 15 tins of Vaseline. A little overboard I know.

Paracetamol – you never know when you or someone else is in pain! It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Pen – again you never know!

Key – essential, obviously.

10. USB stick – the student must have!

11. Socks – This was put into my bag in the winter because the rain always got my feet wet. I keep them in my bag just in case!

Now that I have cleared my bag out it feels a lot lighter, so now I’ve just got to keep it that way but don’t hold me to that! Why don’t you do the same and find out what’s in your bag you might find something you’d thought you lost!
