First Impressions: Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing

Monday 29 June 2015

Hey guys!
So, as you may remember from my Girl Night In post, I do not do very well with painted nails, however I have heard so many good things about the new Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paint. Although there were many good reviews on this nail paint, I still did not want to try it as I knew that I would still probably chip it within a day. It wasn’t until I was at work, and a friend of mine had the nail paint on and had so many compliments on it, it did look beautiful. Not only that, it lasted so long on her! After this... I had to get it! So I thought I would do a first impressions post.

**Description taken from Barry M**
Barry M’s new Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paint and Topcoat deliver the look and resilience of pro salon gel nails without a UV lamp or the expense! All you need is a Sunset colour and the Sunset Topcoat – no need for a basecoat as the special formulation bonds to the nail like a gel in daylight but can still be removed with a regular remover. Hi shine, long lasting gel nails have never been so easy!

Colour
I love the colour! I think that was one of the main reasons that pulled me in. They’re lovely and summery adding a pop of colour to any outfit. I went for ‘Peach for the stars’ and ‘Fuchsia Generation’. I love the names... they’re so creative and brought a smile to my face when I read it, (and a little sing song!) it was very hard choosing  colour to go for as they’re all beautiful, so if the nail paint lives up to its expectations I will defiantly be getting them all!

Formulation
The nail paint was so easy to apply. I actually think that it was probably the easiest I have every applied, I usually do the left had perfect but paint the whole finger when it comes to my right hand! It wasn’t too liquidly so that it ends up everywhere, but not too thick so that it’s hard to apply a thin layer.

Drying time
In regards to drying time, it was so fast! I didn’t feel as though I had to wait ages to apply each layer, or stand around waving my hands around like a lunatic. However, that in mind, a friend of mine said that she waited ages for hers to dry. When I applied mine I was watching Game of Thrones and was hooked, so it did not feel as though I was waiting. My advice would be to watch TV or do something that doesn’t require your hands so that it does not feel as though you’re waiting for ages.

Price
Personally for me, I do not think that the nail polish is cheap for everyone. Each nail paint is £4.99; however the colour works best with the top coat, making it £9.98 for the set. As that’s just one colour it may not be easily accessible for all ages. On the other hand (no pun intended), it is suppossed to be an alternaieve to salon gel nails, so it is so much heaper, plus the fact that you can use over and over again so the price is kind of justified.

I will report back next week on how well this has lasted! Fingers crossed I've found the one!

Monday 22 June 2015

Hello everyone!

So, I did have a different blog post in mind but earlier this week, as you may know if you follow me of twitter, something big happened to me. My blog reached 100 followers!

I know for some people this may not be a lot, but I didn’t think in a million years that I would reach this many followers. Like that is mad! 100 people have enjoyed the content I publish on this blog so much that they wanted to follow it in order to keep updated! I genuinely want to thank each and every one of you, because without you none of this would have happened.

When I started this blog, I wanted to be kind of anonymous and didn’t want to post any photos online  as I was very nervous and not very confident everything would work out and so staying anonymous was kind of my protection, but now I fell like my confidence is growing and with that, my blog writing is improving. (Even if it has only been a couple of months).

Anyway, onto the reason I am writing this blog post. As you may remember, I created a blog post a while ago about a motivational quote. In this post I told you that if I reached 100 subscribers I would host a giveaway to celebrate so here it is!

I thought long and hard about what this prize should be. I wanted to keep it along the lines of food and baking. I was originally thinking of a recipe file for you to scribble down our own recipes, however I didn’t feel like that was personal enough, but then a light bulb appeared over my head.  A personalised recipe book!

I found a cute little recipe book from buyagift which can be personalised right down to the print colour! Unfortunately, as its personalised I haven’t purchased it yet and I am unable to take a photo to show you all but you’re welcome to look online!

Now onto the rules:
1. Unfortunately it is only open to those who live in the UK
2. You need to be following the blog on BlogLovin
3. The giveaway is open for one month. Until August 1st
4. And then it’s simple, all you have to do is comment below 3 random facts about yourself!
And that’s it! Thanks again guys, it really means a lot. And good luck!

Girl night in

Sunday 14 June 2015

Hey guys!
So earlier this week, the other half has a boy’s night out, which meant I had a rare night to myself. How this doesn’t happen very often, so I decided to take advantage if this and have a pamper evening.
The weather this weekend has been awful and raining non-stop, isn’t it supposed to be summer?! This called for a hot chocolate... not just any hot chocolate but a white hot chocolate. This is my favourite. It’s so creamy and smooth, and when it’s made purely from milk it is heaven... probably full of calories but heaven!
What’s better than a hot chocolate than enjoying it in a warm bath reading a book, I’m currently enjoying Girl Missing by Sophie McKenzie. The hard part was choosing which bath bomb to use!
After that comes the proper pamper. I applied a face mask (best to do this alone so I don’t scare the other half). I then applied a gorgeous set of nails from impress. I would rather pain my nails, but I am terrible with the chipping. I don't know how it happens but they always end up chipped before the day has even started!

For weeks now my work colleagues have been moaning at me to watch Game of Thrones and for some reason I have been putting it off, so I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to watch an episode, and on my gosh... why have I been putting it off for so long?! I LOVE it! I have a feeling it is going to become my new obsession. Oops.
That’s the end of my girly night, what do you like to do when you have a night to yourself? I would like to hear from you in the comments.

Lemon meringue cheesecake!

Tuesday 2 June 2015

Hello lovelies. First off, I am sorry, as I have been very quiet lately. Life has just gotten on top of me, with juggling work, university and family my blog has been neglected. But that is all about to change. I am going to try my hardest to ensure that I post at least once a week, maybe even twice (but don’t hold me to that!).

Anyway, moving on to why you’re really here; the lemon meringue cheesecake.
So I had a few days off work a really wanted to do some baking and so combined two of my favourites, a lemon meringue pie and cheesecake. I chose this because as it’s reaching summer, (I know, it does not feel like it), it’s time to steer away from the warm pie and custard and step into the light and creamy desserts. So what better than a lemon meringue cheesecake!? It’s got a lovely sharp tang to balance the creamy filling of the cheesecake and will want everyone coming back for more!

Biscuit base
1. Crush the digestives using a rolling pin. This is where you can let all your anger out! Alternatively, whizz them in a food processor.
2. Melt the butter in the microwave then mix into the crush digestives.
3. Place at the bottom of your chosen mould and leave to set.

Cheesecake filling
4. Whilst the biscuit base is setting, mix the mascarpone and cream cheese until combined.
5. Mix in the icing sugar, trying not to get it everywhere!
6.  Stir in the juice from two lemons. At this point, taste the mix to see if you want to add more juice.
7. Place this on top of the biscuit base and pop it back into the fridge

Italian meringue
8. Place the sugar and water in a saucepan with a sugar thermometer
9. Leave to boil until it reaches 121 degrees or hard ball
10. Meanwhile whisk the egg white until it form soft peaks. If you’re feeling brave enough test if it is done by turning the bowl upside down over your head. If it doesn’t fall then it’s done, if it does fall, then I’m sorry!
11. When the sugar has boiled, slowly pour it into the egg constantly whisking.
12. When done, place into a piping bag and decorate the top of the cheesecake how you want! Be creative!
13. Optional. Blowtorch to give colour to the meringue.
14. Tuck in!

I hope you enjoy this and re-create it! If you do I would love to see them so leave comment below!

Happy baking! Love, Ky
